Mahamrutyunjay means Great Victory Over Death. It is also performed to appease Lord Shiva to grant those who perform this ceremony long healthy life and victory over any illness be it acute or chronic. The vibrations from it pervade the surroundings (kavacham), offering a shield against sickness and disease.
